To those of you who have followed the site since it stumbled onto the net you'll remember that I used ICQ as much as I used Yahoo... then all of a sudden I was ICQ no more! I started to get messages and email asking what happend? does the site no longer support icq? why aren't you talking to me? you're never online? where are you? don't you like icq anymore? The fact of the matter is the ICQ decided it didn't like me anymore.. or rather my computer.. everytime I logged on I would get in a few minutes chatting before it started sending out the entire history of the converstation to the recipient.. yack yack yack.. enter.. yack yack yack enter.. then bam! yack yack yack yack yack yack yack yack yack yack yack yack yack yack yack yack and you'd get no more sense out of me till logged off then back on only to have the same thing happen again! Dang frustrating!
I drove Scott up the wall and down the other side.. we uninstalled, reinstalled, uninstalled, clean installed.. backed up the address book.. went back a version.. up a version.. lost the address book..and in the end I decided to remove the icq online status and dump it! I was not happy! Then the new version came out.. hmmm.. maybe? Off I trotted and grabbed 2001b dropped everything back to run the install and logged on.. Scott was online. he's always online.. anyone else ever noticed that ;-) and decided to test drive it on him.. away I went.. a couple of minutes passed.. aok.. a few more.. aok still.. I started to breathe again.. just! All went well and I was soon ICQ able again.. next day.. logged on caught up with a friend.. bam! Dang history :- I whinged to him on Yahoo.. and whinged some more.. stamped my foot and bleeted on.. we then went back and worked out what was different this time.. easy! After the install I never rebooted.. so I wasn't running zone alarm or antivirus... had to be one of them.. dropped off AV.. history.. dropped off ZA.. no history... added AV no history! Dang! That simple huh! So now I'm back on the ICQ bandwagon with version 2001b and doing aok so far.. whether it will be lasting relationship who knows.. but for now we are compatible :-)
To all those who have sent messages of concern thank you :-) To those who have asked for my opinion of the latest version.. here is the start of it..
The fact that ICQ jumped on the Smiley bandwagon... having AIM smileys (or as they call them "facial expressions") was no big shock.. I'm not an AIM smiley person ;-) and the their "Emotions" are a nice idea.. but um.. not exactly earth shattering as you can see for your self. Getting to them is easy as bith options are available just above the text input window.. but its a pain in the rear that they can't be accessed like keystrokes :-
When I first logged on I got this dialog box... what can I say about this feature apart from about time! Where was it a few months back when I lost my contacts list.. not once but 3 times!

Over the next few weeks my "opinion" shall grow ;-) and Scott is working on updating the icq pages to reflect the new changes so keep watching his section and email, icq or yahoo him for help and support with your ICQ related questions, problems or concerns you have :-)
