IGNOREING / UN-IGNOREING
How to IGNORE someone
1.) Have icq open
2.) Click on the persons name
3.) Click on "move user to ignore list"

4.) on the little pop up window click yes
(NOTE: if person is already been added to your list you will have to delete them first and wait fro them to message you back and show up as "not in list"

How to UN-IGNOREING someone.
1.) have icq open
2.) click on the "main/icq button"
3.) click on "Security & Privacy Permissions"

(At this point a window will pop up)

4.) looking to the left and click on ignore list (4th form the top)
5.) looking to the right you see names and icq #'s pick with one(s) you want
to take off of ignore.
6.) Now click the "remove from ignore list button"
7.) You will get a little pop up asking if your sure you want to remover
this person from your ignore list click on yes
8.) Click the apply button
9.) Click the ok button
And your done !

Rate Limit Exceeded .... WHY? WHAT? HOW?

ICQ only allows a limited number of connects and reconnects in a certain time period. ( in most cases 8-10 )

Oh yes many of us that have had icq have seen this error message .. oh yea it's a pain. now there are 3 main causes why it happens...
#1 your trying to send a "mass" message (to all on contact list) and in the mess of it all icq knocks itself off the server and then reconnects in most cases with out you even seeing it off offline and back on.
#2 your on a 56k dial up modem that is garbage Or it could not even be the modem it could be your isp that is the problem or just a busy night on the net ... but is what happens in the case of 56k modems is they are so slow (at
times) they the servers icq runs on lose your connecting and it reconnects, again with out you knowing it has done so.
#3 is the e-zest to fix because it is user error .. you may be sitting there clicking
on the red flower then the green then the red then the green ..ect ...ect. ....



here are the steps to fix #1 and #2

1.) open icq
2.) click on the "main/ icq button"
3.) click on "Preferences" (At this point a window will open )
4.) look to the left of the new window click on connections (4th from the top)
5.) now to the right of the window click on the server tab
6.) now click and make sure there is a check mark in the box beside "Keep Server Alive"
Try to connect again in 15 minutes and that should stop it form happening again (see screen shot)

Now if #3 is your problem .... Or you read this and are tempted to see if I was pulling your leg or not well ... all you can do is sit and Wait 30 -
60 Minutes and try to log in again





How to enable / disable random chat messages
1.) open icq
2.) click on icq status (the flower that indicates your online)
3.) click on "Chat With A Friend"
4.) click on "available to chat with a friend"

If there is a check mark you will be contacted by random people if there
if no check mark then you wont hear from random people...

How to enable, disable, change your ICQ sounds...
1.) open icq
2.) click on "icq" button
3.) click on "preferences"

At this point a new window will open!
4.) click on "events"
5.) to the right you see "tabs" click on "sounds"
6.) now where it says icq defaults click there on the drop down menu and click "my settings"
7.) now click on a sound (like message typing)
8.) now click to disable it (if ya want to turn it off) OR if you want to change that sound click select and search for the sound you want to use)
9.) Click on apply and your done!

NOTE: The only sounds i have turned off as well as most users are : message typing message bell message sent message backspace other then them for the rest should not annoy you much
