Sending/Using Sound Files...
You can send sound files in Yahoo Messenger much the same way you send Smileys..
very cool and oh so simple to do. The best thing is that you can even customize
these too... same rule applies with the smileys though for other ppl to hear
the sound file they too need to have it installed on there computer... again
very simple to do.
How to send Sound...
In the message pane window simply type the
following command <snd=filename>filename
being the name of the wav file
eg.. say you wanted to send the "Yahoo"
sound file this is the command you'd use <snd=yahoo>
below is a list of the default wav files that are installed with Messenger

Hide them!
so you want to send a sneaky sound? ;-) here's how to hide the text in the IM
window
enter the text for the sound file ie <snd=filename>
highlight the text from the begining
of the command to the end <.....>
click on the colour palette
select Other Colors
select the White colour box
hit ok
it's now invisible.. so cool ;-)
thanks to child_of_samhain for the above wee trick
:-)

Installing New Sound Files
You can add new sounds to Yahoo Messenger.. it's just a matter of putting the
files in the media folder.. very simple and really quick. The sound files need
to be in wav format so keep that in mind when you are creating your own or looking
for additional files.
as mentioned all these sounds are stored in your Yahoo Media folder, the path...
c:\program files\yahoo\messenger\media
right click the sound
file you want move
select Copy
hit Winkey+E (to launch Explorer view)
and navigate your way to...
c:\program files\yahoo\messenger\media
the Media foldershould now be open in the
righthand frame, you should see the default
sounds in there
now right click on a blank area inside the
folder
select Paste
the file will transfer across.. it's now
ready for using
simple :-)
Get Creative!
You can be as creative as you like but you can only use one sound file in each
message but try combining it with text and smileys for some funky effects try
combining the sounds with smileys...
with a "Kiss" sound...
so it keystrokes needed would be :x <snd=kiss>
or this a "Say What!"
keystrokes would be :-/ <snd=saywhat>
get the idea? ;-) now remember that the person your sending the IM to has to
have the same sounds installed in their Media folder as well for them to be
able to hear it.. if they don't have it installed then all they will see is
the sound text!

I Can't Hear Them!
the most common reason for this is that you have messenger set to play a sound
when someone sends you and IM.. all you have to do is disable this setting,
here's how...
Launch Yahoo Messenger
hit Login
select Preferences
under Category select Alerts
and Sounds
first off make sure Enable Sounds is checked
now in the right hand side look for I Receive an Instant
Message
click on this once (it'll highlight blue)
under Alert Me By:
uncheck Playing a Sound
hit Apply
hit OK
