ICQ 6 comes with 28 animated .gif images that are easy to access and all are included on the menu which once open, sits directly below your text input box.

Personally I find using the key combinations for the smileys / emoticons a whole lot easier (and faster) than having to click the Smiley button then click on the desired smiley so if you also prefer speed then the reference table below shows the key combinations currently available.

Quirk...
It doesn't seem possible to cut / copy and paste smiley codes into the ICQ window, you have to manually and individually key the combinations in. Another downside, it seems that you have to type the codes in the correct visual order from start to finish
e.g I would normally type ** then <- on in, and type k i s s e d
so that kissed would be insert in between the two ** but you can't do that in ICQ, you have to type it in the correct order of * k i s s e d *

and with regard to correcting typos, it seems you have to backspace rather than <- also
e.g if I made a typing mistake and input :! instead of :-!
to correct it I can't just <- and insert - so that it makes the correct combination of :-!
I have to backspace ! leaving : then do - then !
ditto for kissed, you get right to the end and your realise you have spelt it incorrectly as *kised*, you can't <- into possition then add the missing s, you have to backspace yourself into position, then retype from *kis onwards to add sed* for it to work

Are really cool.. well I think so :p some of them are really funny and certainly make you appreciate the sense of humour others are gifted with :)

As expected both ppl need to be running ICQ 6 to be able to appreciate them but it's without doubt a reason to at the very least check out ICQ as an alternative Instant Messenger.
