Meetro "The Social Messenger"
The other day when I was searching for online status indicator options I stumbed across Meetro "The Social Messenger", I hadn't heard of it before so I had a quick poke around.
Their website states
Meetro is: an application that overlays the physical world on top of the online world. It combines the best features of messengers and social networks together with location.
that it's free, which is not out of the norm as most are, that it's caters to Windows and Mac users, again not out of the norm but it's a nice touch that some overlook, that it's 100% Spyware and Adware free, again not out of the norm but some IM's do so it was nice to find a new one that didn't but what got my interest was their step into the highly competitive Instant Messenger market targeting the location of users which is completely out of the norm... at this point I was intrigued so I download Meetro for Windows and Meetro for my Mac to have a play around moreso as Meetro lets you connect to the AIM, MSN, ICQ, Yahoo!, GoogleTalk and Jabber network.
What's cool about Meetro....
If you're a fan on all-in-one Messengers then Meetro is worth checking out
If you want an IM that goes across the platforms then it's also worth checking out but you may find you're a little disappointed with the Mac version if you're accustomed to the Windows one
If you want something sleek and sexy taking up little desktop real estate then opt for Meetro
If you want something new... again check it out
If you want to be different... Meetro
If you want to find people that live close to you then Meetro is THE one to check out
I had a poke around their Terms of Use and Privacy Policy which are extensive and well worth reading if you're going to register and download Meetro, one major point worth noting is that there Privacy Policy states you must be over 16 years old to use their service but there is some confusion as 18 is mentioned in their Terms of Use and Privacy Policy under Eligibility and Minors, respectively. A minor point to note is that if you wish to sign out of their newsletter (which you are subscribed to when you registered) you can do so at http://www.meetro.com/optout/newsletter/, something that's a little hard to locate... also hard to locate is the system requirements for the Windows and Mac versions, I have no clue what they are, feel free to let me know if you do :)
