In case you're not a big news reader, a wee headsup for Yahoo! Messenger users... as reported by IMlogic 10 November 05, IM.Marphish.Yahoo has reared it's head. This pesty wee phishing threat specifically targets Yahoo! Messenger users in an attempt to get to them to cough up their Yahoo! username/passwords by posing as someone from the Yahoo "abuse department"...
Now if you're unsure what exactly "phishing" is then check out how urbandictionary.com succinctly defines it, my personal favourites are....
1. Tricking an internet user into giving you his/her login name and password. Could also be used to get credit card information. Usualy an act of a lamer on AOL...
2. The act of setting up a fake store front that looks like the real one to trick people; usually to steal their personal information. The word was named after Brien Phish who set up a credit card scam in the 1980s over the phone by pretending to be from the credit card company....
5. Scamming method used to ellicit information from "uninformed" computer users through impersonation of trusted sources. you have to love urbandictionary.com ;) The website users were redirected to and subsequently asked to login to (42.pl) has since been shut down, along with the Yahoo! ID used (ychat_complaint_dept_6b) but as with most dodgy things that float around it'll no doubt pop up again in the future, just at a different site and from a different user....
