but as always, is kinda quirky.
The other week Yahoo! Announced that sitting in the wings, getting all polished up for its beta debute in the second quarter of this year, is a budding new version of Yahoo! Messenger built from the ground up and built specifically for Windows Vista... cool! If you check out the video preview at Yahoo! Messenger Windows Vista you'll get a peek at some of the whizzy features and new interface... it's kinda sexy... reminds me of my Mac though ;)
The biggest appeal for me personally is not the new design (I'll just swivel around and face my Mac) nor the new Smileys, both of which are just a small smattering of some of the features heading our way... for me the big "woohoo!" is going to be the ability to merge my Instant Messenger windows into a tabbed interface.. if you're a Trillian or Hello user you'll know what I mean :)
If you head to Yahoo! Messenger Windows Vista you can sign up to be notified when this new version is ready to be launched but while you're waiting the current version of Yahoo! Messenger 8.1.0.239 (released 19 January 07) is said to be compatible with Windows Vista although there is an issue with Voice...
"We are aware of an issue with Microsoft Windows Vista users not having
the ability to utilize the Voice Chat and Voice Conferencing features
through Yahoo! Messenger. Please note this does not affect PC to PC
calling or Yahoo! Premium Voice services through Yahoo! Messenger. Our
engineers are aware of the issue and are attempting to determine the
best course of action to resolve this issue.
We apologize for any inconveniences this has caused and appreciate your
patience while we work to resolve this issue. " ~ Yahoo! Customer Care
I'm not too bothered about it.. but then I'm not making the leap to Vista just yet... maybe next month... when my hair has grown back ;)
