WackyB Spoken Status / Status Alert Yahoo! Messenger Plugin

WackyB Status Alert gives you total control over the status alerts of your friends list.
• Configure individual sounds not only for each friend but also for each action (Online/Offline/Status Change/New message).
• Choose from a library of supplied sounds or select your own (Any sound type WAV/MP3/AVI/MPG/etc).
• Have the status changes of your friends read aloud to you by Peedy (MS Agent Character), Peedy will let you know when your friends come online and leave as well as message status changes.
• Last friends status change is shown in the main window along with their chosen image/avatar.
• A log is also kept so you can see if a friend has been online that you missed.
• Instantly mute all sounds from the main plugin window, Setup sound mute when you are busy/Idle etc..

NOTE:To use the voice and agent functions you may need to install or already have installed, Microsoft Agent. If you are unsure what, if any, Microsoft Agent components you already have installed please go to the Microsoft Agent Test Page, or scroll to the bottom of this page for Microsoft Agent Setup files.

How to Install the Plugin
Launch and log in to Yahoo! Messenger
from the WackyB Spoken Status/Status Alert page click on the Get It Now button


you will see the following warning...

click Yes to proceed

WackyB Spoken Status/Status Alert is a "tab" plugin (unlike the the WackyB YEmotePLUS plug-in which is a conversation plug-in) and as such it will load directly below your friends list...

When it's fully installed, Peedy will announce that WackyB Spoken Status / Status Alert Plug-in for Yahoo! Messenger v8 is now ready for using :)

If you see this Warning...
"An application is attempting to load a Microsoft Agent character from an untrusted Web site. Do you want to allow this character to be loaded?"

This means you don't have the Microsoft Agent Character Peedy installed. If you click Yes, then the Peedy will be run from Microsoft's Agent website, we strongly recommend you click No, so that you can downloand and install Peedy to your own computer.
You can download Peedy directly from Microsoft Agent Character Peedy.exe

If you notice any delay in loading or any other message boxes pop up, follow the instructions below ensuring you install all files listed.

Do You Want Speech?
WackyB Spoken Status / Status Alert uses Microsoft Agent and Peedy, a Microsoft Agent Character, as such, if you wish to utilise the full capabilities of the Spoken Status Alert you will to have the Microsoft Agent files installed. Most systems already have these in place but for those who don't or who are unsure we have detailed the files and download locations for you, all of which are available via Microsoft websites and servers.

For best results we highly recommend downloading and installing the files from all the options listed below (even if you think you already have them/wont need them) as it saves a lot of time and frustration in the long run.

To make things easier we have listed the main files you may need depending on your operating system
Microsoft Agent: Download and install the core components of Microsoft Agent by clicking the link below. Note, you do not need to install these core components if you are using one of the Microsoft Windows XP, Windows 2000 or Windows Me operating systems. The Microsoft Agent core components are already installed on your computer. If you think you may need this then get it [here...]

SAPI 4.0 runtime support: Install the SAPI 4.0 runtime support below if you are using the Windows XP operating system and intend to use any of the speech components here with Microsoft Agent. (so get this [here...] )

Microsoft Agent character: WackyB-Status Alert uses the character Peedy get him [here...] (you will need to get this if you see the 'Microsoft Agent Warning' message each time you load the plugin)

Text-to-speech engines: Can you see Peedy but can't hear him speak? Try getting the Text-to-speech engines [here...]

Test if you have Microsoft Agent installed / running correctly
You can test your configuration and see what if any Microsoft Agent files you have installed at http://www.microsoft.com/msagent/dev/code/TryMSAgent.asp
simply wait for the page to load, then enter text a hit Speak, or click on Tell a Joke, or Sing a Song, if Microsoft Agent is already installed as with Peedy then he should fly onto your screen and start speaking to you, you should also see a text bubble.

If you see Peedy but hear him him speech, ensure your speaker volume is turned up and / or that your speakers aren't muted. If your speakers are all set to go and you still can't hear Peedy then you will need to download the Text-to-speech engines: http://activex.microsoft.com/activex/controls/agent2/lhttseng.exe

Don't Want Speech
If you want to have custom sounds for each user action but do not want any speech functions, you can disable Peedy (you will not need to download and install any of the files listed above).
From the settings window click the Mute Settings tab, Untick the box Load Peedy on start-up, click Save (bottom right of the settings window)
If at a later stage you wish to have speech announcements you can simply go back and tick the box :)
