Ok what you need to do to use the Yahoo Smileys on your Yahoo Mail is follow the instructions for server based smileys which we show at [Yahoo Mail More] and simply use the following server path to generate the smiley you wish to insert or if you're a dab hand at it already just brush up with the quick step by step at the bottom of this page...
Note: this list is current only to v4 :-)

Inside the main window..
select Compose from the Navigation menu ..
You need to have it set to PLAIN version NOT formatted
down the bottom of the text input window check the radio box beside html tags aloud
toddle back to the main body and type your message...
once you've finished that and are ready to insert your smileys hightlight the script above for the smiley you wish to insert
right click, select copy
right click your cursor where you wish to insert the smiley in your email message then select Paste
repeat the steps above until you have inserted all the smiley codes
to check how it's going to look hit the html preview link...
this will open in a new browser window ....
if everything is aok, close the preview window and hit send :-)
