Finding and Opening the Emote_user.dat File
To find your emote_user.dat file you can
go one of two ways depending on how Yahoo Messanger was downloaded
***see below***
Downloaded to the default location:
1)double click on "my computer" to open it
2)double click on "c:"
3)double click on "program files"
4)double click on "yahoo"
5)double click on "messanger"
6)now scroll down until you see "emote_user.dat"
7)once located double click on it to open it
***NOTE***
If you are asked what program you want to open this file with choose "notepad"
****once you open the file scroll down to section "Making
your own Emotes"
Downloaded Yahoo Messanger to a custom location:
1)click on your "start menu"(bottom lefthand side of ur computer screen)
2)click on "find"
3)then click on "files or folders"
***a new window should open up***
4)where it says "named" type in "emote_user.dat"
5)where is says "look in" choose "c:" from the drop down window
6)once the results come up..click on it
****NOTE****
If it asks you what you want to open the file up with select "notepad"
Making the Emotes
***you don't have to delete anything in the file just start typing your own
emotes under the example***
make sure u follow the correct format or they won't work... once you've entered
the new emotes click on file then save... if you are in a chat room when you
make these new emotes you'll have to exit the room and come back in before they(emotes)
will show up in your list...
Here is an example...
CustomHey room you can create custom emotions by editing the emote_user.dat
fileHey %s you can create custom emotions by editing the emote_user.dat file
***the first part (custom) is the name of the emote..which is what will
show up in your list the second part (Hey room you can create custom emotions
by editing the emote_user.dat file) will be just you doing it
Example. melissa152k: Hey room you can create
custom emotions by editing the emote_user.dat file
The third part (Hey %s you can create custom emotions by editing the emote_user.dat
file) is you and someone else in the room
Example. Melissa152k:Hey Wackybonline you
can create custom emotions by editing the emote_user.dat file
***make sure you put the %s in the place of
where you want another users name to be
***make sure you use the foward slashes(for the longest time I was using
backslashes and couldn't figure out why the emotes weren't working)
