The smileys had been out less than 48 hours and we were already getting questions about how to edit them.. you'd think that 64 new ones would have kept you occupied for at least a week but nope.. that wasn't the case so here is a very quick run down for you with the files names you're going to need

NOTE:-
- in version 5 the smileys files were named alphabetically A-Y but in 5.5 the files are named numerically.. which is why previous edits no longer work. This includes the exe files that are readily available on the net... the ones created for v5 won't work with version 5.5

- if you're after a copy of the animated smileys in a continuous loop or wish to use them in messenger Steve-e has kindly provided a zip file for you, you can get your hands a copy [here] (scroll to the bottom of the page)

- x-rated smileys are now compatible with v5.5, head to the creators site [http://www.geocities.com/basefaces/] (this is often down due to exceeding bandwidth so do keep trying) or check out [zakie.fsnet.co.uk - X-Rated Smileys]

If you've edited before you should be a dab hand by now ;) Remember the .gif files are used in the IM window and the .bmp files are the images that you see on your drop down menu (which is why none of the "secret/hidden" smileys have .bmp files :)

Editing...
make your way to C:Program FilesYahoo!MessengerMediasmileys
now lets say you decided to remove the devil...
the files you'll need to change are...
16.gif (IM window) rename this to 16_original.gif
16.bmp (drop down menu) 16_original.bmp
>:) key combo

now grab the image you wish to use in its place... lets say you've taken a fancy to [Tweetz] mooning smiley. Change the current file name 16.gif and drop it in your smiley folder (C:Program FilesYahoo!MessengerMediasmileys) this will give you an image that appears in your IM window, if you wish to have one on your dropdown menu then simply create a .bmp file from one the frames used in the animation, save that image as 16.bmp and drop it into the smiley folder.. tada all done :)
