All I get is %S not the persons name!
This is perhaps the most common. The format for emotes has 3 parts to it as you
can see below..
EmotionName\Room Emotion
Text\User Emotion
this is really important if you want to use the %s command to insert a users name..you
must have all THREE parts to the emote
if you only have two parts like...
smooches\smooches %s
yahoo will read it as a Room Emotion not a
User Emotion which is why the %s will show
rather than the name of the person
what you need to do is write it like this...
smooches\smooches\smooches
%s
the middle part \smooches can either be left as a "filler" or expanded
to be relevant to the room.. like..
smooches\smooches everyone!\smooches
%s
Opening Emote_user.dat
I double click the file and nothing happens!!
ok.. if you double click on the file this can happen so try this instead...
make your way to the emote_user.dat file
right click on the file
select the command Open With...
an Open With... dialog box will launch
under Choose the program you want to use...
scroll down until you find NotePad.. click
on this once to select it
make sure that Always use this program to open this file
is NOT checked... there should be NO
tick in the box
now hit the OK
add the emotes you wish to :-)
It just wont open!!
Launch Notepad (hit Start > Programs >
Accessories > Notepad)
An Untitled Notepad will open (it will be blank so don't panic)
At the top of the Control Menu (File, Edit,
Search, Help) click on File
then select Open
before you being to navigate your way to the emote_user.dat file make sure that
you have changed "Files of Type..."
from Text Documents to "All Files" (if
you don't do this then you won't be able to see the emote_user.dat file)
now start to navigate you way to the file (remember the path is C:\Program
Files\Yahoo!\Messenger)
once you have located the emote_user.dat then double
click on it
this will launch it in Notepad (the title
will change from Untitled to Emote_User.dat)
from there just enter the custom emotes and remember to save it back to the .dat
file extension not a .txt one
