Yahoo Messenger "The All New Yahoo! Messenger" ~ Audibles

With "The All New Yahoo! Messenger" came 'Audibles'... totally cool! If you used Yahoo Messenger back in the days of v4.0 then Audibles will be a familiar concept to you as they are very similar to in style, appearance and funk as the Ch@tables were back then. The main difference between the Ch@tables and the Audibles being back then the Ch@tables could only be used hand in hand with Ch@tables imv (IMVironment) but with the Audibles you can use them in or outside of any imv!

Installing / Downloading Audibles...
The most often asked audible question we are getting at the moment is "how do you get them to show?" or actually what we are hearing the most is "the audibles don't work!". Lets just say straight up front that it can in fact be a bit of a 'challenge' but do persist as they can be great fun. Firstly, to use audibles you need to have (installed) Macromedia Flash Player (at least v6, current version available is v7,0,19,0 released 22 April 04) so have a quick peek and see you meet the minimum requirements before you proceed with the "challenge".
BTW, do check you that you haven't disabled them....
Messenger > Preferences > Messages
under the Miscellaneous
make sure there is a tick beside "Enable Audibles"

The easiest way we have found to get the audibles to load is to get another user to "pass" (and it's really not "passing" them to you as you do download them independently) one to you by simply using their audibles in and IM conversation. Now, it wont show up immediately and it may not generate the audibles to start to load at all the first few times but do keep trying, get your friends to use their audibles with you at every given opportunity and one from each set is usually enough to kick the rest of them into place. For me personally I had no trouble grabbing the "hellos" or the "Goodbyes" thanks to Twendy and Patches each using one from those sets during a conversation. The "flirts" were a real mission and now matter how many times friends used them they never appeared.. until 3 days later when up they popped all by themselves (no friend participation at all) and the next day the "Games" categories appeared the same way so persist, persist and persist :)

Using your Audibles...
You'll find your audibles available in any messenger window, just look for the audible icon (to the right of your smiley drop down menu icon), hit the lips and up springs your audibles (defaults to the last set you selected from).To the right appears a "More Audibles" button, use that to change or select from the different categories available. With the beta release we were introducted to 4 categories "Flirts", "Hellos", "Games" (with the sub categories 'Losing','Taunts','Winning') and "Goodbyes" and since v6 has become a production release the categories (and audibles available in the categories) have expaned to include the likes of "Insults" and "Madonna". To take the audible for a test drive (see and hear what will be generated when you send it to a friend) click the audible, you may need to wait a little while (couple of seconds) but then it will "play" complete with animations and voice... very cool! When you've made your selection, click on "send" (at the top of the audible) and away it goes. Now audibles can only be used by themselves, you can't insert an audible into a messenge that you're going to send so keep this mind when you need to say "hello" to friend.. instead of using text why not use an audible! There is also a right click audible menu available, to get your hands on it simply right click on any audible in the selection window and up it pops. The right click options available are Replay audible, Find similar Audibles (handy if your current selection is from "Recently used Audibles") and mute.. remember this if ever you find you are without "sound".
