Copy and Paste without the formatting Download

If you've ever had to copy and paste anything from a website into a word document.. or a number from a rich text page to a spreadsheet cell and had it paste not just the text you wanted but also the font.. the size.. the graphics and formatting then you know why I'm writing this..

Say you are browsing your favorite website.. come across some text you want to quote:

So you highlight.. copy to clipboard and paste.. say into an editor or spreadsheet application...

You end up with a usually poor attempt at preserving the formatting of the source text.. or worse still it wont paste at all

Some applications include a Edit menu option to paste with formatting removed or as plain text.. but it's often several mouse click away..

when you are otherwise using Ctrl-V keyboard shortcuts it can be a real pain

When there is no menu option the typical way used to convert to plain text is to open up notepad and paste.. select all and copy back

PasteClean is a little utility I wrote some years back to solve this very problem:



Once run you can leave it just sitting there.. or click the text to hide the window; From then on until you close the program, everything you copy and paste to the clipboard will be automatically converted to plain text by the time you come to paste it. Doing the same copy and paste as above and you end up with this:

If you hide the window.. you can get it back to close the program by copying the text 'pasteclean' to the clipboard
