ICQ Pro 2003b
I guess in part it's familiarity, but in saying that there is also something more... trying to isolate what the "more" is, is incredibily difficult though. I know when I installed ICQ Lite that I greatly disliked this little cut back version but the "Lite" series has changed over time so that Pro feature gap wasn't quite so large.. but I find it... "cutesy" I guess *blush* and I never quite got the "Xtraz" side of it all but that's just me and ICQ 5.1 does have a huge following... I just I'm just and old dog stuck trying adjust to new tricks *blush* My series of articles on ICQ Pro 2003, if you can call them that *blush*, are "brief" at best, they cover the ICQ smiley shortcuts, the ICQ Pro2003b Status options, a quick reference for the ICQ Pro2003b Icons that you will find in this version and a summary of Official ICQ Links that might come in handy. Perhaps the most compelling reason for not using ICQ Pro 2003b these days is that huge security issue that will never be resolved in the Pro series, Infoworld.com have a great "geek speak free" article that is well worth a read Nasty bug found in 'classic' ICQ client, in part it states:
The full tech article by coresecurity.comis available for viewing at AOL ICQ Pro 2003b heap overflow vulnerability. I guess this page, for now at least, is my final hurrah for the ICQ Pro series as today logic has kicked and I'm trying to find my way around ICQ's latest offering ICQ 6 :( |
