MSN Messenger version 7 Emoticons / Smileys

Enable/Disable MSN Messenger v7 Emoticons / Smileys....
select Tools > Options
the Options window appears
select Messages (from the left hand menu) > Show emoticons or Show custom emoticons
select or deselect as required
OK

Adding New Emoticons...
select Tools > My Emoticons
My Emoticons windows appears > Create
Add a Custom Emoticon (dialog box) appears
there are 3 fields to fill out
1. Specify an image...
hit Find an Image, by default you will be taken to your My Pictures folder, either select an image from there or navigate your way to the image you wish to use, hit Open
you will be taken back to the Add a Custom Emoticon dialog box
2. Enter the keyboard shortcut, up to 7 characters
3. Enter the name of the image if you wish
hit Ok
you'll now see the My Emoticons window again where you should see your new image sitting under the category heading My Emoticons

If you're using MSN 7 and the person you're talking to an earlier version they may find a few smiley quirks, like squished smileys and just the keycombo showing instead of the smiley, more so if you've elected to use an animated one.
Things to remember....
Standard emoticons are 19 × 19 pixels.
MSN 7 supports up to 50 × 50 pixels
Supported file formats JPEG, BMP, GIF (including animated), and PNG
You can pin 40 images
When MSN Messenger stores your new emoticon, it automatically resizes it to 19 × 19 pixels. (Custom or premium emoticons resize at 50 × 50 pixels.)
